There's a new social media app on the block. Introducing Sarahah, an anonymous messaging app that's quickly gaining popularity.

But, how much do we really know about Sarahah?

While the new social media app says it improves friendships, there's one thing your friends may not appreciate when it comes to Sarahah.

It turns out, while you've been using the carefree app, the company behind Sarahah has been uploading the contacts in your phone to its servers.

The alarming discovery was noted by Zachary Julian, who used software to see what type of data was being pulled off his phone.

Julian also noticed that Sarahah was storing both his phone and email contacts.

The CEO of Sarahah was quick to respond to the allegations, citing an upcoming "Find Your Friends" feature as the reason for obtaining the data.

According to the Daily Dot, while many users were prompted to give certain permissions to Sarahah upon downloading the app, people who owned an older Android device were not notified of the data collection.

Plenty of social media apps collect user data including contacts, however, Julian feels the app did not fully disclose the practice upon download.

How do you feel about giving Sarahah access to your contacts?
