Swedish Model Disputes She's "Blackfishing"

Ok, there's a new trend out there. It's called "Blackfishing." Yep, it's real.

In fact, a white Swedish Instagram model is being accused of doing just that. And in case you're wondering, "blackfishing" is pretending to be black on social media in an attempt to gain followers.

Nineteen-year-old Emma Hallberg is catching heat after a picture of her started circulating online. In the picture, Emma has noticeably lighter skin and straight hair. But a side-by-side comparison of her shows a darker-skinned Emma with curly hair which has led people to believe she was black or mixed-race.
Many people are accusing Emma of adopting black features to get paid by advertisers to influence social media followers.

Meanwhile, Emma says none of that is true. She says she gets a "deep tan" naturally from the sun and never pretended to be anything but white. She says she never intentionally mislead people about her race. She says her natural features are what they are and is sad that people are upset about it.
