Detroit Police Officer Demoted For Mocking Black Motorist On Snapchat After Impounding Her Car And Making Her Walk Home In Freezing Temperatures - Blogged By: @carmen.roxanna ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A #Detroit police officer filmed a woman he pulled over walking home in the cold and referenced “black girl magic” in his #Snapchat caption. For that, the Detroit Police Chief has demoted the officer and is seeking further appropriate punishment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chief James Craig said the corporal officer pulled the woman over for an expired registration and subsequently had her vehicle towed. Reportedly, as she walked home in the cold, the officer posted a video on Snapchat saying "Bye Felecia." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What’s more shocking and infuriating for Chief Craig was the racist connotation behind the Snap; the officer used a "Celebrate Black History Month" filter, with the caption "What black girl magic looks like.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The chief called the posts racially insensitive and expressed concern for the woman walking in the snow, especially since Michigan's extreme winter weather forced the state's government offices to close down Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Chief Craig also stated that the officer’s 18-year history in the department has been troubling. “After reviewing the history, there is a pattern, and I'm concerned about this pattern," Craig said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The officer is under an internal investigation, and the department has already begun penalizing him for his actions. “I'm not troubled, I'm not disappointed, I'm angry," Craig said. "This officer will be held accountable for his actions. We are moving to remove his corporal rank."
