The Don is back!
Big Sean has new music, which is exciting news for fans of the Detroit rapper.
As promised, Big Sean dropped the reflective single titled “Overtime” on Wednesday at noon ET.
“I just feel like it’s all clicking, you know. Like, it’s all working out and I’m about to work out. Colossal. B.I.G. look,” Sean says at the beginning of the track that is produced by Hit-Boy, Key Wane, and The Tucker Brothers.
“Overtime” is Sean’s first solo single since 2017 when the rapper dropped his album I Decided and Double or Nothing, which was a collaborative effort with Metro Boomin. Big Sean wants his fans to know that he “didn’t take a break.”
“Lord, why you keep boxing me in cause I’m God’s gift/I might set my mic back up in the closet though/Just to give myself that same feeling from 04/When my hunger was more advice to you and yours/ They say it’s over for you that’s when you go overboard okay/Sh*t I didn’t take a break my n***a/I broke,” Big Sean raps on the track.
At the end of “Overtime,” there’s a sample of bowling legend Pete Webber’s major celebration once the professional bowler claimed victory. On Wednesday, Big Sean premiered the track that he refers to as “fun.”
“In a sense, I just been returning to my roots,” he said. “I’ve just been getting back to having fun with it. You know what I’m saying? At one point I felt like it might have started to become like a burden, or like work, but now it’s just fun. So this is just me having fun bro, expressing myself. It was a time well spent. I never really knew how important it was to take some time for myself and get myself right. And it takes a while so it can take.”
He continued to say, “That’s something you can’t really put on a time schedule. But you know, throughout that whole time I’ve been working on music so it is good to get it out. It is good for people to just finally see where we are because I got so much just ready for the world. It’s deeper than just putting music out. It’s like I feel like I got a lot to say that a lot of people may not be addressing right now. You know what I’m saying? As far as just emotions and feelings that a lot of people are going through.”
