Actor Isaiah Washington, who is known for his former role on Grey’s Anatomy and the 1997 cult classic film Love Jones, recently came out as a Donald Trump supporter, as Newsweek reports.

Washington recently told Fox Nation‘s Nuff Said why he feels that some people in the entertainment industry are afraid to “come out” as conservative. He also talked about what his reasons were for leaving the Democratic party.

“You got a lot of conservative or centric libertarian-minded people that really care about other people but they are terrified to come out of the closet and say anything that’s not in line with the Democratic party,” Washington told Nuff Said host Tyrus.

During the interview, Washington also explained why he supports the #WalkAway movement, a digital campaign to motivate people who feel left behind by the Democratic party to find other options, such as the Republican party. The actor, who was fired from Grey’s Anatomy for using a homophobic slur, said that Democrats are “not doing enough” for blacks.

He noted President Donald Trump’s support for the First Step Act, a bill that would lessen a prisoner’s sentence due to good behavior and help them re-enter society once they’re released, is one of the reasons why he switched.

“I’m going to support the policy over the person,” he told Nuff Said. Back in April, Washington clarified why he is no longer a Democrat via Twitter. “I voted for 44 twice. I even checked my emails in his Senate Office while lobbying for Salone to be given another chance to rebrand. Not once in 8 years was I given any support regarding Africa or the Black Agenda, but 45 invites me to the WH to celebrate the #FirstStepAct,” he tweeted.

Washington’s new revelation received mixed criticism on social media. Check out some of the tweets below.
