What Would You Do?
Felicity Huffman who was caught up in the college cheating scandal was sentenced to only 14 days in jail after she got caught paying someone to sit in the class with her daughter during the SAT exam and giving her the answers so her scores would be high enough to get into certain colleges. Mind you she paid $15,000 for the answers and also to help lie on her college applications. A lot of people are comparing this sentence to the sentencing of a woman near Boston, MA named Tanya Mcdowell who lied about where she lives in order to get her 6-year-old son into a better school, authorities considered it grand larceny because they felt she was “stealing an education” (BS).
I have the same questions why is one sentence more harsh than the other, but I also understand their intentions. As parents, we all want the best for our and we would do anything TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW to provide for our children and to make sure they have a better life than we had BUT in the same breath we have to understand that there are consequences for your actions. I would do anything for my children but I will NOT break the law for them because in my opinion, it teaches them that they don’t have to work for anything, all they have to do is find someone to take the fall for them and they can get away with whatever they want to do. What would you all have done if you were in these parents shoes? Leave your answers in the comments.
