A lot of us know Coach Boone from being portrayed by Denzel Washington in the film "Remember The Titans".
The North Carolina-born Boone led undefeated T.C. Williams to the state championship in 1971. But what make his story so unique is, he became a black head coach during the worst time of segregation. Boone was voted in by the city to be the head coach of football, since all the other teams had white coaches.
In an interview Boone talked about how members of the city wanted him to loose and how it was a setup for him. His assistant, Coach Yoast was supposed to be the head coach but was removed the day before.
Boone earned two degrees from North Carolina Central University and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2004. Last March, the new basketball media room was named in his honor.
He went on to be 13-0 and win the state championship through racism and segregation.
