Harold Easter was arrested last Thursday and died Sunday while in police custody. CMPD said he fell unconscious while in custody for an interview. 4 officers and a sergeant from CMPD have been placed on administrative leave because there is an ongoing investigation into the cause of death of this man. This decision is a typical procedure for any in-custody death investigation. Officials didn’t say what medical issue Easter had but did say that the officers administered medical aid to him inside a police substation while calling for EMT’s also.
Easter was pulled over and arrested when police said they witnessed a suspected drug transaction which prompted them to make the traffic stop. Easter was then arrested on drug and traffic charges near Whisnant Street and Burton Street after a traffic stop. The officers placed on administrative leave are Brentley Vinson, Michael Benfield, Michael Joseph, and Shon Sheffield. Metro Division Sergeant Nicolas Vincent was also placed on leave.
Do you think the officers had something to do with this man’s death?
