Michael Sam will visiting Wingate University this month. He will be discussing his experience playing in the NFL along with the importance of diversity and inclusion in the world of sports.

Michael Sam made history in 2014 as the only openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL as defensive end for the St.Louis Rams. He then Retired a year later stating mental health reasons.

Wingate officials state that Sam “has served as an example for resilience and inclusion ever since” his football days as they announce his visit.

This will be one of the many Black History Month events held at the university this month. The Event is set for Feb 26th at 7pm. Although admission is free, tickets are still required.
