The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that there have been at least 22 million illnesses this year. Even though there have been talks about the coronavirus that has a lot of people freaking out, the flu has actually already caused over 200,000 hospitalizations and 12,000 deaths.
Some health experts are saying even though the new coronavirus is all over media headlines, it’s actually influenza that poses a bigger threat to North Carolina. So far this month (February) five additional flu-related deaths were reported bringing the state’s death toll to 63 this flu season, according to the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services.
