If you love music, podcasts, live concerts, stand-up comedy, speeches, or used a microphone personally give thanks to co-African-American inventor DR. James West. Microphones used daily thought the world to communicate over short and long distances far and wide. Today 90 percent of the microphones used in phones and cameras were co-invented by a black man. Dr. West created a more compact microphone.
Along with his colleague Gerhard Sessler, Dr. West invented the foil electret microphone, which was considerably less expensive to produce than the typically used condenser microphones. Two years after it was invented, the final model of the microphone was developed in 1964, and they patented the landmark invention. Only four years later, the new microphone was in extensive production used in hearing aids, tape recorders, most telephones and baby monitors, according to History.com.
