When I was very young, I used to walk with my father through our garden and he told me something I’ll never forget.
He was a stern military man, some would say the strong silent type. But his eyes, even in his late fifties, sparkled with all the innocence and wonder of a child. We would walk through our orchard of assorted fruit trees in silence; his hands clasped behind his back as he’d stride gracefully through the grass. I trekked beside him trying to keep up.

“Its so amazing,” he said finally while staring at a delicate peach blossom. “A whole tree from a tiny seed! All you have to do is put it in the ground and God does the rest.” At the time it didn’t seem amazing. It seemed obvious. “Yeah, Daddy,” I thought to myself, “that’s what seeds do.” I didn’t understand the gravity of his words or the magnitude of what he was eluding to.
But now I do.

And I apply this philosophy to more than just fruit trees and vegetables gardens. I apply it to everything I do in life.
Regardless of what your religious beliefs are, the universe provides everything we need to live and prosper. We just have to initiate it…speak it into existence. We just have to plant the seed. The things we take for granted: medicines, salves, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices – there’s a seed for that. We put it in the ground and it always grows. See, seeds are like dreams, cultivate it and it will come. If you reap it, you will sow it someday. I think we all can have paradise on earth if we get in the right head-space…the right heart space.  I garden now. On my small patio in my modest apartment I grow chamomile and mint leaves for my tea and flowers in clay terracotta pots. It’s a spiritual experience. I find comfort in knowing God will never let me down. I know why Daddy’s eyes are filled with wonder. Our power is infinite and spans across the bounds of space and time. Just bury the seed…God will do the rest.
