A lot of businesses are being judged by how the do or don’t respond in the wake of the current climate in the world.

The death of George Floyd has sparked a necessary uncomfortable feeling with some, and most would say it’s a feeling that is well overdue. The current climate now has many businesses thinking long and hard on the stance they will take. It could mean a potential loss of customers if it’s not the right move, but, I believe Uber has made a big, bold, and well thought out move.

The CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, released a statement with a few announcements. First, they donated $1 Million to the Equal Justice Initiative and the Center for Policing Equity.

He also announced a massive campaign to support black owned restaurants and small businesses by offering free delivery fees to black owned restaurants thru the remainder of the year. There was also a mention of discounted rides to select small black owned businesses.

I appreciate businesses like Uber taking a stand, but if they could take it a step further. Help some black owned businesses start companies with some type of business grant. Even if it’s $500, it can go a long way. But, kudos to Uber for making a major step down a long road yet still to equality. Thank you Uber.
