Ever wonder what works and what didn’t work? Here’s a list of fast food flops.
- McDonald’s Hula Burger – Introduced in 1960, the pineapple-and-cheese “burger” was created to compete with Filet-o-Fish, and give Catholics something to eat other than meat on Friday.
- McDonald’s McDLT – It was basically a burger with the lettuce and tomato in a separate Styrofoam container for “maximum freshness.” Environmental activists weren’t down with the extra packaging and it was off the menu by 1991.
- McDonald’s Arch Deluxe – One of McDonald’s most expensive failures, the burger with Arch sauce, a mustard-mayo combination, was discontinued in the late 90s.
- McDonald’s McSpaghetti – The burger company tried to add spaghetti to the menu in the 70s but it’s no longer available in the U.S., although you can still get it in the Philippines.
- Taco Bell Waffle Taco – Introduced in 2013, these were basically eggs and sausage inside a waffle, although they didn’t last.
- Taco Bell Seafood Salad – Launched in the 1980s as an answer to the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish, customers did not like the shrimp, whitefish, and snow crab mix.
- Burger King Enormous Omelet Sandwich – Introduced in 2005, the breakfast sandwich was discontinued over health concerns, thanks to its 330 milligrams of cholesterol and 1,940 milligrams of sodium.
- Burger King Satisfries – Burger King tried to introduce an alternative to their fattening fries, but failed, and they were discontinued in 2014.
- Wendy’s Frescata – A deli sandwich that only lasted a year because of bad sales.
- Dominos Oreo Dessert Pizza – Introduced in 2007, this sweet pizza was quickly pulled because it was well, too sweet.
