404017 04: A Big Game lottery ticket is visible as it spits out of a lottery machine at a Citgo gas station April 16, 2002 in Russell, Illinois, a small community in northern Illinois on the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Thousands of people are rushing to snap up tickets for the Tuesday night April 16, 2002 drawing, the second-biggest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. The jackpot in the seven-state game played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey and Virginia climbed $25 million Monday, April 15, 2002 after strong sales over the weekend. By the time of the drawing, the prize could swell past the U.S. record of $363 million, split by two Big Game winners in 2000. (Photo by Tim Boyle/Getty Images)

If you bought a lottery ticket recently, you definitely should check your numbers, because you could have just won it big without knowing.

A lottery ticket worth nearly $700,000 was sold in Concord, NC last week. The winning Jackpot 7s ticket was sold Friday at the Circle K convenience store on Poplar Tent Road, 26 miles north of Charlotte, but a winner has still not come forward to claim their $691,417 prize (before state and federal taxes).

Winners have 180 days to claim their prize at any lottery office.

I didn’t know this but apparently is lottery prizes never get claimed, they get split in half and distributed between the Education Lottery Fund and the other half goes “to enhance prizes” in other lottery games, according to state law.

Lottery winners can either choose to get their money in one lump sum or to get payments across years with their winnings.
