Chris Nikic set a goal, and he has achieved it. The 21 year-old triathlete from Florida, has successfully finished the Ironman Triathlon, consisting of 2.4 miles of swimming, cycling 112 miles, and running a 26.2 marathon. This makes Chris the very first Ironman finisher with Down’s Syndrome.

Chris Nikic finished in 16 hours and 46 minutes, beating the course cut-off time by 14 minutes. Nik Nikic, Chris’s father, helped him throughout the race. He prepared his shoes for him and after two thirds of the race, stated, “You’re two thirds of an Ironman” on Twitter, giving his son the recognition he deserves.

Chris’s journey of three years has paid off. Chris’s father encouraged him to become one percent fitter every day and he started with just one press-up a day according to Men’s Health.
