Tommy “Tiny” Lister, the actor best known for playing Deebo in Friday and Next Friday, has died. He was 62.

Lister’s death was confirmed to Variety by his manager Cindy Cowan who said in a brief statement, “He was a wonderful guy with a heart of gold. Everyone loved him. A real gentle giant. We’re all devastated.”

A cause of death is not yet known, but Variety reports, “Cowan said he was found unresponsive in his apartment in Marina del Rey, Calif. after displaying symptoms of COVID-19 in recent days. He had been working on a film and had to cancel shooting after falling ill, Cowan said.”

In addition to Friday and Next Friday, Lister amassed a lengthy list of acting credits including appearances in 1997’s Jackie Brown and The Fifth Element, 2000’s Little Nicky, 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember, 2008’s The Dark Knight and 2016’s Zootopia.

Lister famously had a run in the then World Wrestling Federation as Zeus, the character he played in the 1989 film No Holds Barred, which starred Hulk Hogan.
