It had been more than 15 years since the Central Cabarrus Vikings Men’s basketball team had been the out right conference champions but that all changed this year.  They won the SPC conference title in dramatic fashion hitting a buzzer beating 3 pointer in order to be crowned conference champions,  finishing the season with an 11-1 record and being the 7 seed in the NCHSAA playoffs.

As the playoffs started last night the Vikings took on Kings Mountain high School and the game was never close, they blew past KM defeating them 95-57 with contributions from everyone.  The Vikings travel to undefeated Weddington (14-0) on Thursday for a second round game.  This game should be exciting as both teams can fill up the scoreboard.

This is my alma mater and I’m excited for these young men because it’s been a long time since our basketball team gave the alum and students something to cheer about.  If this season wasn’t marred due to Covid I believe the amount of support for the team as they travel to weddington would be astonishing.
