Charlotte Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball, who is considered to be a frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year, will likely miss the remainder of the season, according to media reports.

Ball, the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, fractured his right wrist, ESPN reports.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ball is seeking a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis.

Ball was having a strong rookie season, averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He has played in all 41 games for the Hornets.

He injured his wrist in Saturday’s loss at the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Hornets own a 20-21 record, and currently sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Ball was drafted after playing basketball overseas with the Illawarra Hawks in New South Wales.
