Kobe Bryant’s deal with Nike has come to an end. His family/estate has decided not to renew their agreement with Nike. Honestly, I saw this coming.

If you remember, I talked on the radio about an investor that shared words after Kobe’s death that he was on his way to create his own shoe brand. I believe this would have happened even if Kobe was alive because they were on the way to making that happen. Well, Vanessa Bryant shared words about the decision via IG stories. She said “It seems fitting that more NBA players wear my husband’s product more than any other signature shoe. My hope will always be to allow Kobe’s fans to get and wear his products.” She went on to say “I was hoping to forge a lifelong partnership with Nike that reflects my husband’s legacy.”

If Kobe indeed was on track to eventually part ways with Nike, then I do believe that’s the next step Vanessa will go. I think it makes sense. The last Kobe shoe Nike released were the Kobe 6 “Grinch.” It was to commemorate his last season playing. I think that was a great way to end the partnership and now, a fresh start is on the horizon. Drop your thoughts.
