The FBI has opened an investigation into the shooting death of Andrew Brown Jr. during an arrest in North Carolina. The 42-year-old Brown was shot five times by police while being served with search and arrest warrants on drug charges. His family claims that Brown made no threatening moves or gestures and say they were only permitted to view 20 seconds of body cam footage of the incident with some parts blurred.
Judge Jeffery Foster ruled not to release the full body cam video. He said that making the video public right now could jeopardize the investigation into Brown’s death. He went on to say the video must remain out of public view for at least 30 days, but claims he will consider releasing it after that if the investigation is done. FBI officials say they will work to determine if any federal laws were violated.
