Charlotte City Councilman Suggest Misdemeanor For Helping the Homeless
Imagine giving to the homeless and receiving a misdemeanor. Well, that is what one Charlotte City Councilman is suggesting.
Councilman Tariq Bokhari thinks that people that donate directly to the homeless, instead of to a group that works with them, should get charged with a misdemeanor. “They are only making themselves feel good. They are hurting those folks. Perhaps we consider making that a misdemeanor. We have to do something different.”
The idea was presented at Monday’s City Council meeting. While many say this will never happen, only 1 city council member verbally denounced the idea. Councilwoman Renee Johnson said, “That’s something I would never support. Especially when there are so many barriers for individuals who are homeless.”
