Why do so many people from up north decide to move here to NC?  I understand that it’s cheaper to live in the south but it seems like everybody moves here at the same time every year lol.

North Carolina ranks as the 3rd most moved to state in the entire country.  North Carolina also ranks as FORBES’ Best State for Business for the third straight year (2017 was its first time on top). With one of the highest net migration rates in the U.S., people have been flocking to North Carolina for the past decade. The state has the smallest union workforce in the U.S. in terms of percent of total employment. The resulting benefit is labor costs that are 8% below the national average—sixth lowest in the country.

NC ranked #5 on the list of states that people moved to during the pandemic.

The Raleigh-Durham area is no longer among the top 10 best places to live, according to the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report — but Charlotte is.

The Queen City clinched the No. 6 spot for the 2020-2021 Best Places to Live outranking Raleigh-Durham in the No. 11 spot.

Charlotte hasn’t historically been a heavy hitter in the U.S. News & World Report rankings. In 2019, it was listed as the 20th best place to live, moving up just two spots from the previous year. So what caused the sudden spurt in popularity?
