MLB Baseball - Sports are back — kinda. The shortened baseball season kicks off on July 23.

I have felt that American Football has taken over as America’s favorite sport and pastime for at least the last 25 years.  Baseball used to be the favorite sport but I believe it got marred in the late 90’s early 2000’s with all of the steroid use and allegations.  Even when the home run chase happened with Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and Sammy Sosa football was steadily rising as the top sport.

When football’s rules began to change, the hits got harder, and the scores got bigger is when it started to take over as the best sport in America.  I really think it started with Dick Vermeil and the greatest show on turf the St Louis Rams.  Yes the cowboys had an exciting team in the early 90’s but baseball at the time was just as relevant as football.  When Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt (a Greensboro native) stepped on the field with that high powered up tempo offense people tuned in and they wanted to see them also.  This team became great in the midst of all of the steroid scandals that were beginning to happen in the MLB which turned people away from the sport.

This was a time where teams like the Minnesota Vikings were all becoming favorites because they had high scoring offenses with the likes of Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper and then in 2000 a guy named Tom Brady became the starting QB for the New England Patriots and we all know he rest is history from there.

Only certain games in baseball get people excited for but everyone gets excited for football season now.

Which sport do you get most excited for?
