The new public art project entitled SEEINJUSTICE by the group Confront Art is installed in New York’s Union Square on September 29, 2021, in New York City.
The social justice art installation features sculptures made of wood of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Congressman John Lewis. Both Floyd and Taylor were killed by police setting off large social movements around the world. Artist Chris Carnabuci created the works which will be on display starting on October 1st.
Unfortunately, the statue honoring George Floyd was vandalized just two days after being unveiled in New York City’s Union Square. Police say video footage shows a man on a skateboard throwing blue paint onto the statue around 10 is Sunday morning.
The statue was unveiled in Union Square on Friday, alongside statues of Breonna Taylor and John Lewis in an exhibition titled SEEINJUSTICE. The other statues were unharmed. You can see the social justice art installation below.
