Two Well Known Charlotte Streets To Be Renamed
When you’ve known a street name for a long time, renaming it means new beginnings. Two well known Charlotte streets will be renamed very soon.
The renaming of these streets comes on the heels of celebrating historical black history moments and places in the Queen City. Barringer Drive will be renamed Revolution Park Drive. This will be effective May 23rd. The name stems from then fight to desegregate two spaces. Revolution Park and Charles Sifford golf course.
The second street that will be renamed effective June 30th is Stonewall St. It will be renamed Brooklyn Village Avenue. There was thriving black community in the Second Ward called Brooklyn Village. According to the City of Charlotte, this community thrived with its own schools, churches, businesses and more. Gentrification came in and pretty much moved this thriving community out. How do you feel about the renaming of these streets?
The city has announced new street names as part of the Legacy Commission’s street renaming work.
