AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – MAY 26: The Total Lunar Eclipse of the Moon is seen on May 26, 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the first total lunar eclipse in more than two years, which coincides with a supermoon. A super moon is a name given to a full (or new) moon that occurs when the moon is in perigee – or closest to the earth – and it is the moon’s proximity to earth that results in its brighter and bigger appearance. For the first time in three years, a full lunar eclipse will happen and I'm going to give you the details on the times and how you can watch it. There are some things that happen in the sky that you need a telescope to see, but this instance won't be one of those. If it's cloudy, that may obstruct your view a bit, but hopefully it's not too cloudy.
Some call this eclipse the "super flower blood moon". I believe it has something to do with the color that produces once the moon passes through the shadow of the earth. The partial eclipse will start around 10:28pm. That's when you should probably have your snacks together and ready to sit in your chair outside. About an hour later, around 11:29pm, the total eclipse will start. You should have already had at least one cocktail by this time. Lol. At around 12:54am, the total eclipse will conclude. I hope you get to see it.
