Charlotte Teen Facing Felony Charges After Threats Made Online
Officers in Union County were notified that there was a threat made to Sun Valley High School late Monday night that was posted to Instagram. A very extensive investigation was conducted by the School Safety Division with UCSO finding there was an unsubstantiated threat to the school.
The UCSO identified the author of the threat to be a 15-year-old student who attends Sun Valley High School. When the officials questioned the student at school about the post on Tuesday, the student admitted that he was communicating the threat simply because they didn’t want to go to school that day.
The juvenile is now being charged with felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property. He may also face long-term suspension as a result of the threats made online, the sheriff’s office stated.
Do you ever recall when you were in school any student who made a threat to the school? This is kind of crazy, but it is also sad because we want children to understand how serious these threats can be. You have to be careful with what you post online and understand what exactly is being done. There can be serious charges and consequences when it comes to posts on social media.
