Video Shows Passenger Stuck In Airplane Bathroom After Door Gets Jammed
I knew I avoided airplane bathrooms like the plague for some reason. Have I used them? Yes, have I in recent memory? No. And this right here is confirmation I’m making the correct choice. A thread was recently posted in the r/Delta subreddit by a woman who says her husband got stuck in an airplane bathroom. For 35 minutes. I wouldn’t call myself claustrophobic but I would be after 35 minutes in an airport bathroom.
The flight was from Salt Lake City to New Orleans and before the woman started her story she said “You can’t make this S*** up”. Her husband got up to use the restroom while she stayed with their kids. She noticed he was gone a long time and then overhead a flight attendant use the word “stuck”. That’s when she says “Something clicked”. She wrote, “My attention diverted to the rear of the plane, where sure enough, two Delta flight attendants were yanking the bathroom door handle in and attempt to free my trapped husband.” A male passenger joined in the effort, but they still weren’t able to free him.
So next on the recruitment list was the pilot. She jokes about who was flying the plane (all commercial airplanes have a co-pilot). And that’s where the video below picks up. Between the pilot pulling and “Brent” as she identified her husband kicking the door he was finally able to make his escape. She says he spent about 35 minutes trapped in the bathroom and is grateful it was him instead of a child or an elderly individual. It seems Delta is laughing the incident off which is why she shared her story on social media. The Reddit post ended this way:
Delta Air Lines asked that I wouldn’t share the videos a fellow passenger took for me on social media (I couldn’t leave my kids in their seats alone to take my own pictures/videos). But customer service wouldn’t even refund our, as you can imagine, terrible flights. So…here we are.
As of the time of publishing Delta has not issued a statement. Come on Delta a passenger was stuck in your airplane bathroom, at least give them some free drinks. You can read the full Reddit post here.
The Odds of Your Flight Being Delayed At Each North Carolina Airport
It almost seems inevitable these days that if you fly you’ll have to deal with some sort of delays. But what are the true odds of your flight being delayed when flying in a North Carolina airport? I’ve flown for three trips (or six total flights) so far in 2023 and on the return trip of two of those my flight was delayed. And not just once, but several times over the course of a few hours. And unfortunately both times I had already arrived at the airport, so I couldn’t even enjoy the extra time on my vacation. That part may very well be what irritated me the most. Especially when I could have been at Disney World. The someone ironic part of this story? Both delays were flying out of different Florida airports. My family has since banned me from flying to Florida. Not sure I’ll listen though!
North Carolina Airports
There are 10 airports in North Carolina that service commercial passengers. And ahead of National Aviation Day, August 19th, researchers at BetCarolina decided to calculate the odds of your flight getting delayed at each of those airports. And it’s not your imagination, those odds are increasing over time. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that the percentage of delayed flights in 2018 was 17.3%, and it now sits at 21.6% in 2023.
What are we considering a “delayed flight”? A flight that arrived or departed from the gate 15 minutes or more after the scheduled arrival or departure. And you may be surprised to learn that the odds of your flight being delayed is not the greatest at the largest North Carolina airport. No, I’ll spoil it now. Charlotte Douglas International Airport did not have the highest percentage of delays. Instead, a regional airport did. But CLT was close to the worst. Keep reading to see what your odds of your flight being delayed at each North Carolina airport are. And you’ll learn a little about the destinations each airport serves. Another interesting statistic- overall if you are flying from anywhere in NC you have a 22.5% chance that the flight will be late.
