The Fastest Rising Sport in America Right Now is…
This game has me hooked, lined, and locked in. I have a newfound obsession and it’s a fun sport. This is the fastest growing sport in America and it’s taking over very quickly. With over 36.5 million people playing this game now in the country, pickleball has become a favorite among Americans to play. From August 2021 to August 2022 the sport went from 5 million people playing to an astonishing 36.5 million playing.
This game has garnished nationwide attention due to the likes of celebrities endorsing the game like LeBron James, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Kevin Durant. These celebrities have all invested in professional pickleball teams. What began as a way to get in on a professional sport early has become one of the hottest sports investments with the ability to own a team in the low seven-figure range. New sponsors have even gotten involved with the sport, companies like Holland America, Anheuser-Busch, Skechers, and Carvana have all signed recent deals with pickleball leagues.
If the tennis courts at your local parks and recreation centers are starting to look different it’s because a lot of investors are now putting a boatload of money into pickleball courts in different cities across the country. In Southern California, the Santa Monica Tennis Center just invested $250,000 in a new facility dedicated to pickleball. Outside of Sarasota, Florida, real estate developers have invested $180 million into a 15-court facility called The Pickleball Club. They expect to have 600 members. Even though the game is just catching fire right now, it was actually created in 1965 by three fathers in Bainbridge Island, Washington who were looking to give their kids something to do because they were bored.
