Carolina Ascent FC Inaugural Season
On May 16, 2023, it was announced that a new Division I professional women’s soccer team would plant roots in the Carolinas. Carolina Ascent FC, formerly Super League Carolina, is one of the eight inaugural franchises to launch with the USL Super League, the country’s newest Division I women’s professional soccer league, which is set to kick off in August 2024.
Carolina Ascent is the first women’s professional sports team to call Charlotte home since the Charlotte Sting, one of the eight original WNBA franchises that began play in 1997 as the sister team to the Charlotte Hornets.
The club will host the first-ever USL Super League match at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 17. The team is led by former U.S. Women’s National Team Assistant Coach, Philip Poole. Carolina Ascent’s roster will include both our region’s top local talent and welcome some of the best professional soccer players from across the country.
