In April Missy Elliott announced dates for her first-ever headlining tour featuring Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland. But the artist revealed to PEOPLE magazine that her late pet “greatly” influenced her decision to delay the tour.

Ahead of her upcoming tour, Out of This World – The Missy Elliott Experience, the outlet reported that she postponed going on tour several times, most recently to look after her dog Hoodie, who died in November.

"I stayed home a lot because I didn't want to go out on the road, and something happened," Elliott, 53, told PEOPLE. "He was 17 and lived a long, happy life."

She adds that her senior dog was "so pretty" and "lived a very long time."

They also mentioned that after Hoodie’s death, encouragement from her friend Ciara helped motivate the hip-hop icon to tour again.

"So I said, 'Okay, now I can leave the house without having to worry about anything,'" she recalls thinking after Hoodie's death. "So Ciara and my dog played a big influence in me making the decision to go out."

While on tour Missy Elliott will be accompanied by her dog Miss Fendi Dior. According to the artist, she’s six years old and is road ready. And by road ready, she will be dressing her dog up during the tour.

Elliott has always shown off her dog's fashion on social media. Previously, she shared photos of Hoodie in outfits like a fur winter coat.

Her Out of This World – The Missy Elliott Experience 2024 North American arena tour, which kicked off on July 4 in Vancouver at Rogers Arena, and includes stops in Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Houston, Tampa, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn and Detroit before winding down on August 22 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.

The tour will feature support from Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Elliott’s longtime musical partner producer Timbaland. The poster for the tour features Missy, Busta, and Ciara dressed in Mad Max-style futuristic leather outfits standing in front of a giant spaceship.

“This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts.’ Being the FIRST female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my FIRST headline tour,” Elliott said in a statement.
