Starting Sept. 8, workers will block off a section of Charlotte's Rail Trail between Poindexter Drive and New Bern Street. The Charlotte Area Transit System announced the four-month closure on Sept. 2 to fix drainage issues.

The work zone sits by New Bern Station, right next to MAA Reserve Apartments in South End. The project will stretch into early 2026, blocking parts of the path during repairs.

Workers plan to close just one side of the trail at a time, keeping access open for users. "We will provide updates as they are available and appreciate your patience during this time," CATS officials said, according to Queen City News.

Signs will mark alternate routes around construction. These markers will direct people to open sections as work shifts from side to side.

The Blue Line trains won't stop during repairs. Riders can stick to their usual schedules, and station access stays the same throughout construction.

This busy stretch sees daily foot traffic from locals who walk, run, and bike. South End residents count on the path to reach stores, homes, and train stations along the Blue Line route.

Got questions? Call CATS at 704-336-7433. The team hasn't spelled out the specific drainage problems they're targeting.

If the weather holds and work goes smoothly, crews should finish by January 2026. CATS promises to send out progress reports during the four months of work. The path serves as a key link in Charlotte's growing network of urban trails.
