State officials have put a fresh spin on Interstate 77’s Exit 30 in Davidson. They’ve named it the Stephen Curry Interchange.

The basketball ace got wind of this honor during a surprise moment on NBC's Jenna & Friends this Wednesday.
"I grew up in Charlotte, and I drove down I-77 my whole life, and it literally is Exit 30, which is, such a coincidence, but this is, this doesn't make any sense," Curry said on the show. "This is pretty special."
Former Davidson College basketball coach Bob McKillop shared the big news on air. "This is the exit 30 sign that is going up so, obviously exit 30 or No. 30, but the Department of Transportation has named that exit the Steph Curry Interchange," McKillop said, according to WCNC.
The ball started rolling last October when Davidson's Town Board pitched the idea. Town and college brass backed the plan before state transport chiefs gave their stamp of approval.
The spot marks where Griffith Street crosses I-77. It's not just any exit: it leads straight to Davidson College, where Curry first showed his basketball magic.
At Davidson, Curry shattered records. His freshman year, he sank more three-pointers than any NCAA newcomer before him. Then came 2008, when he shot his team past Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin straight into the Elite 8.
"You know, a big inflection point in my life, one of the best decisions I think I ever made going there," the NBA player said about picking Davidson.
The Golden State Warriors snagged Curry in 2009's first-round draft. Since then, he's grabbed four NBA rings, clinched two MVP titles, and lit up nine All-Star Games.
Curry didn't stop at basketball. In 2022, he finished his sociology degree. That year, Davidson did something they'd never done before: they retired his number. Charlotte topped it off last September by giving him a key to the city.
