May the 4th be with you. Yes, it is that iconic day. Today throughout the world and galaxy it is known as Star Wars Day.
The phrase “May the 4th Be With You” dates back to 1978, one year after Star Wars: A New Hope was released. During the summer of ’78, clever newspaper writers used the phrase as a gimmick for the Fourth of July celebrations. As heard in A New Hope, “May the Force be with you” has appeared on licensed (and unlicensed) buttons, posters, and other items for months, which convinced these writers that their readers would enjoy the joke.
