Lizzo is speaking out! The singer took to social media to respond to the complaint filed by three of her former dancers in the California Superior Court earlier this week. The allegations include failing to stop or address a hostile work environment, sexual harassment, racial harassment, and harassment based on one’s religion. One of the women claims Lizzo brought up the dancer’s weight increase. Another dancer claims that after recording a meeting due to an eye issue, she was later reprimanded and fired. The lawsuit stated, “Lizzo became furious, hurling expletives at the group and stated that she was going to go around the room, person-by-person until someone told Lizzo who made the recording.” The plaintiffs are asking for an undisclosed dollar amount for unspecified punitive damages, medical costs, and attorneys’ fees.
Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison also shared her experiences while working on the Lizzo’s documentary. She said on social media “In 2019, I traveled a bit with Lizzo to be the director of her documentary. I walked away after about two weeks. I was treated with such disrespect by her. I witnessed how arrogant, self-centered, and unkind she is.” She also wrote, “My spirit said to run as fast as you f**king can and I’m so grateful I trusted my gut. I felt gas lit and was deeply hurt, but I’ve healed. Reading these reports made me realize how dangerous of a situation it was. This kind of abuse of power happens far too often. Much love and support to the dancers.”
