Every year around campfire season, cryptids are the subject of spooky stories, and as sightings of mythical creatures like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster increase, so does our curiosity. Data from Google Trends was used to shed some light on the most popular urban legends in each state for this study.
The origin of every urban legend can be found in its story. By sharing their perceptions with others, urban legends start out as tall tales and balloon into the social consciousness. Most of the time, it serves no purpose other than to deceive people into seeing something lurking in the shadows or murky depths. There are some people who are able to see whatever they would like to see if they squint really hard at something. In North Carolina, everyone is loving a popular cryptid.
