Fall Roadtrip Ideas: Asheville, NC
With October finally here, and fall weather still feeling like it’s years away, it feels like the perfect time for a road trip! Over the next several weeks I’ll be sharing some of my favorite destinations that are close enough for a weekend getaway!
First up this week is one of my favorite places to visit in the fall Asheville, NC.
Driving Distance: 2 hours
What to Do:
- It’s leaf season in the NC Mountains so start with a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway to check out the fall foliage
- Enjoy a hike. I’d personally recommend Catawba Falls for a great view or this three waterfall hike.
- Check out the brewery scene. Highland, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada are great ones to start with.
- Visit the Biltmore Estate . The house is great but check out the outdoor activities they have including trail rides, rafting trips, the gardens and more. Don’t forget to participate in the wine tasting- included in your admission price, or dine in one of the on-site restaurants.
- Spa Day. If outdoor activities aren’t your thing check out the spa at the Grove Park Inn
- Ghost Tour. My friends and I did this trolley tour a few years ago and it was a blast but there are several options including walking tours as well.

Where to Stay:
- Grove Park Inn. A pricey option but worth it if you are in the market for a splurge!
- The Village Inn at Biltmore. This is the least expensive of the on-property hotels and is walking distance from the winery, several restaurants, and shops!
- Asheville Cabins get a true mountain getaway experience and enjoy the serenity of nature!
- Asheville Glamping. This one is on my bucketlist! Think camping, but luxurious,
- There are also plenty of chain options such as Days Inn, Hampton Inn, etc that you can get a great deal on or even use your hotel points!
Where to Eat:
Asheville has no shortage of fantastic restaurants so it’s hard to go wrong with anything you choose, but these are some of my personal favorites!
- Tupelo Honey we do have one in Charlotte but this is the original and if you love it as much as I do it’s worth checking out for brunch, dinner, or just a quick cocktail! Try the Crispy Brussells, Shoo Mercy Grilled Cheese, or the Shrimp and Grits!
- If you’re looking for a fancier dinner at a great price check out Isa’s Bistro. They have a great wine selection, steaks, seafood, and more!
- Check out breakfast at Sunny Pointe Cafe. Weekend morning typically have a wait but the food is worth it and the ambiance is cute and charming.
- Even if you don’t stay at Grove Park Inn, the restaurants are worth checking out and you can enjoy strolling around the hotel and grounds as well. The Edison has a gorgeous view of the mountains or enjoy classic southern cuisine at Blue Ridge.
- If you’re downtown grab a quick bite at Pack’s Tavern, plus the trolley ghost tour leaves from here!
- No visit to Biltmore is complete without a bite to eat. Whether you want a quick sandwich at The Library Lounge, the experience of dining at The Stable Cafe, or a classic tavern experience at Cedric’s there is something for everyone!
