Carolina Streamer Spotlight: Meet Javien Carter/ OGSweatband
Video games are all the rage, so we decided to shed some light on local video game streamers in the Carolinas. This week, we had the chance to sit down with local community game streamer, Javien Carter, and ask him about being part of the game stream community!
How’d you get into streaming? What was the original goal?
I got into streaming because it was a new challenge and something different. I have always loved gaming and I saw that streaming was another way of networking in this industry. I also wanted to be able to show that streaming is not only about being the best but showing the importance of being entertaining and relatable to your supporters.
What’s been your best moment as a streamer?
The best moment so far was when I noticed that my followers were growing on both YouTube and Twitch. I also enjoy each of the conversations I have with my viewers and supporters.
What games speak to you?
I would say the game that speaks to me would be Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It was the first game I ever played online and that gave me my first taste of competitive gaming which has to lead me to where I am today.
How do you like connecting with your audience?
I connect with my audience mainly through Instagram, twitch, and YouTube! I also try to use other apps like twitter and discord to make sure I am connecting with as many people as possible.
If your fans were only going to take one message away from watching you, what would it be?
If my fans took one message from me it would be that they learn anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Anything you do that involves growth will happen as long as you are consistent and believe in what you are trying to accomplish.
What advice would you give to aspiring streamers?
The advice I would give is not to think because you are not a big known streamer that you are not good, that nobody is watching, or that you will never become known. We all started from somewhere it’s important to keep going forward and realize that progress will come with hard work.
What’s the biggest surprise that you never thought of going into streaming?
I never thought I would find a team to join as long as I had been playing but PMG helped me understand the potential I have as a competitive gamer. Having people that belief in you will make everything feel worth it when you are working hard to accomplish your goals. Having support will make you appreciate it more.
