Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy
Cardi’s made a name for herself in rap when she dropped her debut album in 2018. The release was followed by her explosive hit “Bodak Yellow,” which served as the album’s lead single. She won the Best Rap Album award at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. She became the first female rapper to win the award as a solo artist. The quadruple platinum record is now the first album by a female act to have all songs (13 in total) certified platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The success of Invasion of Privacy has been a blessing and curse for the rapper as it triggered her anxiety in wanting to have a great follow-up to her debut.
“When it comes to music and everything, I just be feeling like I don’t be liking anything,” she said back in 2022 on Instagram Live. “I feel like I got so many songs and I don’t like anything. I feel like nothing is good enough… And I got so much money saved up I just be like, ‘Yeah, whatever the f—.'”
She added that the pressure from everyone commenting on what she does also plays a role, although she has decided to block it out and keep going.
“I used to love making music, but now, making music to me has become like a job that gives me anxiety,” Cardi B says in the video. “Everybody just critiques everything that I do, that it’s just like…you know, sometimes you just don’t want to do something that may give you that much anxiety. So I just be like, “Uh!” — freezing myself but I have to let that go. I have to release more music — I have to go out there.”
Earlier this year, she told fans that she is not letting anyone stop her from making music, including her anxiety.
“I promise y’all this year, I’m not letting my anxiety, I’m not letting what haters say, I’m not letting what fans say,” she said on social media. “If I do a song, I’m just gon’ f—— drop it. Well, I have no choice because I’m dropping my album this year. So, stay tuned for the announcement. But, don’t play with me.”
This year she has released two solo songs, “Like What,” and “Enough (Miami).” She also was a featured artist on Flo Milli’s “Never Lose Me” with SZA and “La Punteria” with Shakira.
