Food lovers could enjoy slices of wood-fired pizza offered by True Crafted Catering. At 5:30 p.m., crowds gathered to light the Christmas tree at 301 S. College Center.
Event organizer David Stuckey told WCCB-TV that the idea for Christmas in the Plaza came from recent renovations to the plaza at the corner of S. College and Third streets. “The purpose of the renovation was to bring a place of culture and community to the Uptown area,” he said. “We began exploring ideas that we can activate it and really bring the community together. … During the holidays, community is at the forefront, and one of the most important aspects of it is putting together a holiday market for everyone to enjoy and for the community to get together.”
Events like Christmas in the Plaza support local small businesses in Uptown Charlotte by inviting people to shop, dine, and enjoy all that the area offers. According to Christmas in the Plaza co-organizer Sarah Nielsen, more than 20 vendors from the Charlotte area participated in the holiday gift market.
