Kirk Franklin Shares Why He Is Against Religion
Kirk Frankin recently sat down with The Same Room, a digital talk show presented by The Shade Room, and discussed why he’s against religion.
“The reason why I am so anti-religious is because since the inception of religion it is always been man’s attempt to try to define who God is within culture, instead of allowing God to define who he is to man,” the iconic gospel singer said.
“So that’s when we get different religions, different philosophies, different ideals. Every religion is always sculptured to benefit the one that created it. Even when you look at the Church of England and how the Church of England was developed, so the king could get a divorce.”
“So that is a constant narrative of religion,” Kirklin continued. The “Love Theory” singer also discussed moments in history “from the Crusades on to Jim Crow,” where people have been imprisoned and marginalized “in the name of God for the benefit of those who were stronger than the weaker.”
Franklin said that in order for people to bring respect back to a community of faith, there has to be an admittance of wrongdoing.
“Just like there are many mistakes in the legal system in America. There are so many police that has done many many bad things. There are so many times where the judicial system has gotten it wrong,” Franklin said.
Franklin continued and said, “We have to shed light on the good, while also acknowledging the bad when it comes to the idea of faith. don’t throw God out, just because some idiots made some mistakes.”
Although Kirklin, who is a megastar in the gospel arena, is against organized religion, he doesn’t want people to become so jaded due to bad experiences related to faith that they forget about God altogether.
