Carolina Streamer Spotlight: Meet Quiana Williams/DaGeecheeGamer
Video games are all the rage, so we decided to shed some light on local video game streamers in the Carolinas. This week, we had the chance to sit down with local community game streamer, Quiana Williams, and ask her about being part of the game stream community!
How’d you get into streaming? What was the original goal?
I have been a big gamer for about the last 20 years now. I have always been a pretty animated person and a natural-born entertainer. I stumbled upon some of the bigger youtube gamers a few years back and hadn’t even realized that there was such a thing as people who just played video games for the entertainment of others. Once I learned about this, I just knew this was something I would really enjoy doing. I love to make people smile and I love to make people happy. I learned that I could do this as a streamer and it’s just a win/win all around since I love playing video games just as much!
What’s been your best moment as a streamer?
The best moments for me as a streamer have always been just getting to meet new people in my streams and having the opportunity to engage with them in the chat. I have met some really genuine people and they have been really encouraging along this journey just helping me to grow as a person and a gamer.
What games really speak to you?
I have always been heavy into JRPGs. These are the games that really got me into gaming in the first place. I absolutely love anything that comes with a good storyline. My favorite games lately have been the choice-based games. It reminds me of the “choose your own adventure” books that I would read as a kid, but much more immersive. I love to feel like I am actually a part of the story.
How do you like connecting with your audience? What tool do you use most?
I mostly engage with my audience via Twitter since it’s pretty fast-paced, but I can also pace myself and not become too overwhelmed. I also like to connect via discord when I want to get more personal with my audience, and of course, I love to chat with them via the streams!
If your fans were only going to take one message away from watching you, what would you want that to be?
I would want my fans to know that the only limitations there are in life are those that you place on yourself. You are perfectly capable of accomplishing anything you are willing to work for and what is meant for you, no one can take from you.
What advice would you give to aspiring streamers?
Remain authentic and be patient. It might take some time to find your stride but never fake the funk. There is always someone out there who can relate to you and will appreciate you for being your true self. You don’t need to put up a front for likes because when you start pretending to be someone you’re not, then you run the risk of it no longer being enjoyable for you because you have to continue to put up that front every time you go live. Just be you. You are enough!
What’s been one of the biggest surprises that you never thought of going into streaming?
I never thought that I would have made so many genuine connections and have such an amazing support system as a streamer. I thought that I would just be on my own all the way through and I would have to figure everything out myself and hope for the best. Since I started streaming, I have signed to an amazing management company (Phorce Management Group) and they have been super helpful and encouraging this through this whole process. I have also met other amazing streamers and gamers who just want to see me be successful and I am very appreciative of that!
For those who don’t know, how can they find you?
I can be found on Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, and YouTube all under the same nametag, “DaGeecheeGamer!”
