Miley Ray Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus, is a singer-songwriter and an actress, getting her start on Disney channel with her television series Hannah Montana (2006-2011). Her music spans varied styles and genres, including pop, country, rock, hip-hop, and experimental music. The Tennessee native took after her father Billy Ray Cyrus’ music success with major hits over her career such as “The Climb,” “Party in the U.S.A.,” “Can’t Be Tamed,” “We Can’t Stop,” “Malibu,” “Without You,” and the chart-topping “Wrecking Ball” that dominated airwaves and memes in 2013.
Miley, 30, may have changed her sound over the years, but her voice has only gotten better as she has journeyed into the bright young woman we see today. She recently hosted NBC’s 2023 New Year’s Eve special for the second year, but this time with her godmother Dolly Parton. Everyone’s favorite godmother-daughter duo rocked out to “”I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” performed a medley of “Wrecking Ball” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” as well as Parton’s iconic “Jolene.”
On Friday (January 13), Cyrus dropped a new single titled “Flowers” on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday. Besides shading her ex, a closer look at the lyrics seemingly references the former couple’s life together, including the loss of their home to the 2018 California wildfires. “We were good, we were gold, kind of dream that can’t be sold. We were right ’til we weren’t. Built a home and watched it burn,” she sings in the song’s first verse. Cyrus and Hemsworth’s relationship was on and off over the last decade (they began dating in 2010). They eventually married in December 2018, though their union lasted less than a year.
Cyrus’ 10th album, Endless Summer Vacation will be arriving on March 10 via her new label, Columbia Records. The record, which Cyrus described as “her love letter to L.A.” in the announcement, will be the follow-up to 2020’s Plastic Hearts.
