A good scare is a must-have in October. I mean, can you really call it the month of terror if you don’t experience some fear?

Haunted houses and trails are back. If you have the courage to enter, there are a bunch of frightening places you can enjoy. Here are 13 haunted houses and trails you can visit in North Carolina.

  • 1. Scarrigan Farms Haunted Trail

    Scarrigan Farms Haunted Trail returns October 1st in Mooresville. This trail is one of my favorites and I’m so glad to see it back. I’ve gone several times and it will give you a good jump! Scarrigan Farms Haunted Trail costs $25 on Thursdays and Fridays, $30 on Fridays and Saturdays. Patrons must be age 12 or older to visit. If you reserve online in advance, you’ll get a $5 dining voucher to use for food or drinks at The Quarry Kitchen on the night you visit.

  • 2. Tunnel of Terror

    This is a double hitter for me. I love getting my car cleaned and I love Halloween. If you do too, the Aquawave Express Carwash hosts the Tunnel of Terror. Located at 6415 West Wilkinson Blvd, Belmont, every Thursday through Sunday until Halloween you can drive your car through and get some boos too. Tunnel of Terror is open from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. It costs $22 per car. 

  • 3. Lake Hickory Haunts

    I’m so excited to try this one! Lake Hickory Haunts is one of a kind haunted theme park, featuring a large body of water and 12 unique haunted attractions. It is open now through November 13th on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They also are open one Thursday on 10/28. Tickets are cheaper online with General Admission selling for $26 (plus tax), a Fast Pass for $41 (plus tax), and a VIP Pass for $65 (plus tax).   • 4. The 13th Acre

    From now until October 31st you can walk down the path of evil at The 13th Acre. I’ve done it and it’s horrific. (In the best way!) This attraction is located in Monroe, North Carolina and it is open Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are only $13 and combo tickets featuring the Aw Shucks Farm are for sale for $20. 

  • 5. SCarowinds

    One of the best and it comes with theme park rides! Fear is waiting for you at SCarowinds. There is no age requirement to enter SCarowinds, but Carowinds recommends that attendees are 13 years or older. This horrifying event goes until October 31st, 2021. Prices vary from $40 to $72. Parking is not included.

  • 6. Paranormal Grounds Investigation

    Charlotte is home to the Historic Rosedale. My friend Jess and I did this once. It was pretty cool. From 8-10 pm for only $25 you can go ghost hunting with some professionals. You will team up with the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society for a good old ghost hunt. You will explore the Historic Rosedale home and the property. I brought my own spirit box years ago when we went.

  • 7. Hickory Grove Haunted Trail

    Settled in the backwoods of the South Fork River, the Hickory Grove Haunted Trail is one of the original and oldest haunted attractions in the Charlotte, N.C. area. This trail is open Thursdays through Sundays and on one Wednesday on 10/27! Admission is only $20 and is open until October 31st. It is located at the Mountain View Golf Center, 4064 Mountain View St., Gastonia NC 28056.

  • 8. Boogerwoods

    Boogerwoods is a family-friendly attraction that started in 1976. Located at 725 Phaniel Church Road, Rockwell, NC 28138. The attraction raises money to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Dates for the remaining season include  October 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30th! Admission is $30 and tickets go on sale at Boogerwoods each day of the attraction starting at 2 pm. Tickets are only good for that night and are non-refundable or transferable.

  • 9. Nightmare in Carolina

    It was the nightmare before Halloween…and all through North Carolina…not a living soul was breathing…not even a shout! Located at 1525 Shinnville Road in Cleveland, NC, Nightmare in Carolina is a new haunted attraction and will scare you to death. This attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 pm-12 am. Tickets are $35 per person.

  • 10. Kersey Valley Spookywoods

    Open Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8-11:00 pm. Kersey Valley Spookywoods is a tradition in NC since 1985. Tickets range from $35 to $79 depending on what package you choose. They have tons of haunted sets and are a North Carolina haunt favorite.

  • 11. The Fear Farm

     

    The Fear Farm Haunted House isn’t technically in North Carolina but is located pretty much right next door so we counted it. Stationed at 424 Ninety-Nine Island Road right over the state line in Blacksburg, South Carolina, The Fear Farm is open every Friday and Saturday in October from 7-11:30 pm and Sundays from 7-10:00 pm. General Admission is $25 and VIP tickets are $45.

  • 12. The Haunted Pyramids

    Full of 6 haunted attractions, The Haunted Pyramids are located in Lawndale, North Carolina, and full of frights. It is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 pm until 12 am. Tickets are $25 per person and are running until October 31st.

  • 13. 901 Nightmare

    Okay so this one isn’t technically in North Carolina, but the 13th child always is the odd one out…right? The 901 Nightmare is an outdoor haunted attraction that is horrifying. Tickets range from $20 to $35 depending on children, adults, or fast pass access. This attraction is open Friday through Saturdays from 7:30 to 10:30, Thursdays from 7:30-9:30, and Sundays from 7:30-9:30.
