Summer Road Trip.

Looking to take a road trip with the family soon? We all can feel it coming, the kids are going back to school! Parents are happy, teachers are somewhat excited, and summer is almost over. It’s a great time to travel as a family during the summer when the kids are out of school and the parents have some extra PTO to take. Why not have one big final shebang before school starts back up next month?

Now, I personally do not have any kids, but I do remember taking road trips out of Charleston when I was younger. Before sports and summer jobs took over my life, a good vacation before was always fun. We did small trips, like road-tripping throughout SC or driving up here to Charlotte. So, I decided why not do some research and look into places I would take a road trip to right now. Leaving Charlotte, where are we trying to go for a final summer vacation before school starts back up? I guess this can be a bit of my practice before I have kids of my own. But, hey, it doesn’t hurt to talk about a family vacation. Check out 5 spots I think you should think about for a last minute road trip vacation with the family before school starts back up.

  • Charleston, South Carolina

Well, of course, I had to add my hometown to the list. As much as I am someone who prides myself on being happy to have left Charleston, I have been a tad bit homesick lately for some reason. If you know me, then this is very wild to here. But, Charleston still holds a special place in my heart even though I don’t want to live there. I think Charleston would be such a great back to school vacation destination because there is so much to do. You can visit the beach, go eating and shopping Downtown on King St., take different tours, visit the battery, and so much more!

  • Savannah, Georgia

Here is another goodie! In my opinion, Charleston and Savannah are pretty much identical twins in a way. It gives the same vibe in a way but it’s still worth a trip to visit both. The drive would only be a little under 4 hours from Charlotte, so it’s not to long in a car either. Savannah offers up plenty of rich history, great shopping, amazing food options, and the Riverwalk that you can enjoy any time of the day. From the boat cruises to walking along the cobblestone roads, you will feel so relaxed and calm in the city.

  • Jacksonville, FL

This one is a tad bit longer, but it’s under 6 hour drive so you can split the drive between two people and knock it out. Jacksonville, FL is a great spot to take the family for vacation. I mean, Florida is pretty much perfect destination for families anyways. In Jacksonville, you and the family can enjoy a trip to the Jacksonville Zoo, the beach, the museum of science, eat good food, and sight see the Downtown area.

  • Wilmington, NC

Well, another beach destination never hurt anyone. This is a spot that I have been wanting to visit for years, but I have never been. It’s Wilmington, NC. Honestly, I have only ever wanted to see where Michael Jordan comes from, but I also heard the food is really good lol. Take the kiddos up to Wilmington and experience the North Carolina aquarium, Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park, seafood galore, the beach, and more. Sounds like a nice, calm road trip to take for a weekend before school starts back up.

  • Raleigh, NC

Here is a non-beach location, but a very quick road trip to take out of Charlotte. Raleigh, NC, if you have not been recently, certainly has grown a lot over the years. Raleigh is booming and so are the options of things to do with the family. Take this quick drive with the kids and enjoy Marbles Kids Museum, the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, the State Farmer’s Market, Downtown, and more. Sounds like a good time to me!
