Black History Month Charlotte Spotlight: Martin Luther King / Malcolm X
In honor of Black History Month, we have turned the spotlight to the arts to represent Charlotte natives that are making a positive impact on both our culture and our city today.
You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has freedom. I’m for truth no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against. Martin Luther King was an American Christian minister who became the most visible spokesperson and a leader in the civil rights movement. His famous speech I have a dream amongst blacks and whites prospered over the years after his death.
Although, we face racism still to this day. MLK was forcing peace with the nation. I’m honored by the power of his words and acts of nonviolent resistance, his protest, and civil disobedience to achieve the goal. I admire MLK because he forced principles that men and women everywhere regardless of color or creed are equal members of the human family. And I choose to become the next female leader in reference to MLK to bring the culture progress back that was lost years ago. MLK died so that we may all come together look at the races today.
