Bringing Back Apprenticeship Programs
Apprenticeships were very popular back in the 70’s and 80’s, but they’re supposedly back on the rise! Can you leave an apprenticeship? Short answer is, yes you can. You can exist at whatever stage if you feel the need to do so because an apprenticeship is the same as if you were in a regular job; your contract will state the period of notice you must give your employer if you want to leave. According to the Urban Institute, they’re releasing new research and insights from its Youth Apprenticeship Intermediary Project that is funded by the US Department of Labor.
Every year the non-profit organization releases a new report that measures the success of registered apprenticeship programs. This year a new report focuses on a successful apprenticeship program in North Carolina called Apprenticeship 2000. Apparently, Apprenticeship 2000 was created by four companies in 1995 out of a need to address the skills gap in advanced manufacturing in North Carolina.
I didn’t know that the Apprenticeship 2000 is one of the longest running youth registered apprenticeship programs in North Carolina and remains a standout among youth apprenticeship programs in the United States.
