In celebration of Pride Month, Sesame Street is introducing a pair of gay dads in their newest family. The episode with premiered last week on HBO Max is billed as a “Family Day” episode. The recurring character Nina introduces Elmo to her brother’s family which includes her brother Dave, his husband Frank, and his daughter Mia. The characters are played by Chris Costa and Alex Weisman with the daughter played by Olivia Perez.

The episode adds a new dimension of diversity and inclusion to the long-running children’s show. It has been met with positive reviews for showcasing the ever-changing definition of family in a normal and fun way. As Frank explains to Elmo, “There’s all kinds of different families, but what makes us a family is that we love each other.”
