Charlotte Amateur Tennis Tournament
The Charlotte Amateur Tennis Tournament is looking for the best tennis players in Charlotte and beyond! The 3rd Annual Charlotte Amateur Tennis Championships will be presented by Atrium Health so mark your calendars for September 9th through the 12th because it’s the perfect family friendly occasion. The tennis tournament proceeds will benefit the Cynthia Graham Hurd Foundation for Literacy & Civic Engagement. The organization was founded by Charlotte City Council and community leader Malcolm Graham, who is an avid tennis player. If the name Cynthia Graham Hurd rings a bell it’s because on June 17, 2015, Cynthia was one of nine people tragically shot while attending a bible study at Emanuel AME Church, just four days before her 55th birthday. There’s room for everyone to attend from being a volunteer, adult social play, a Rock & Rally Kids Day, and a Wheelchair Tournament in addition to the matches. This year the organization is partnering with Promising Pages, a nonprofit in Charlotte that collects new and donated books and distributes them to students and organizations to eliminate “book deserts” by providing free resources to those who need it most.
